Dryer vent cleaning

Dryer vents

What people ask about frequency, timing, warning signs, the fire risk and the lint trap.

How often should I have my dryer vent cleaned?

Once a year for most homes. A large household, or one that runs the dryer nearly every day, may need it sooner. In humid Tampa, lint clings inside the duct more readily, so keep to the yearly habit even if the dryer seems fine.

How long does a dryer vent cleaning take?

In most cases 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how the vent is laid out and how much lint has built up.

What are the signs my dryer vent is clogged?

Clothes that take more than one cycle, a dryer that gets unusually hot, a burning smell, extra lint around the dryer or the outside cover, rising energy bills and a flap outside that does not open. The dryer vent page explains each one.

Can a clogged vent really cause a fire?

Yes. The U.S. Fire Administration estimates about 2,900 home clothes-dryer fires are reported every year in the U.S., and names failure to clean as the leading cause, behind 34% of them. Lint burns easily, and a blocked vent keeps heat where the lint is.

I empty the lint trap every time. Why clean the vent?

Because the trap only catches part of the lint. The rest passes into the vent line and builds up where you cannot reach it.

Do you clean dryer vents for businesses?

Yes. We clean them for salons, gyms, small laundries and any other business with a dryer. See commercial dryer vent cleaning.

Air duct cleaning

Air ducts

How often to clean them, what the visit involves and whether it is safe for your family.

How often should air ducts be cleaned?

Every 3 to 5 years for most homes. With pets, allergies or visible dust at the vents, sooner.

What happens during an air duct cleaning?

We inspect the system, seal and cover the vents, loosen the dust with rotary brushes and air whips, and extract it with a HEPA-filtered vacuum. Then we check the airflow. See air duct cleaning.

Will it make a mess or damage the system?

No. The vents are sealed while we work, the dust goes into a sealed container, and the tools are safe for all duct materials and AC components.

How long does it take?

Usually 1 to 3 hours, depending on the size of the system. By comparison, a dryer vent takes 30 to 60 minutes and a duct replacement 1 to 2 days.

Is it safe for people with allergies or asthma?

Yes. The point is to remove dust, pollen, mold spores and other irritants from the air your family breathes.

Pricing

What sets the price, whichever service you need

Length and route

A short vent through a wall is quicker than a long one through the attic to the roof. For replacement, the amount of failing ductwork sets the time.

How much buildup

A vent or duct system cleaned regularly is faster than one that has gone years without.

Size and access

The number of vents and how easy the ducts are to reach decide how long duct work takes.

Replacement and booking

Replacement, price and booking

When cleaning is not enough, what the estimate covers, where we work and how to book.

When should ducts be replaced instead of cleaned?

When the ductwork itself has failed, with rust, corrosion, mold, tears, leaks or crushed runs, or when ducts past 15 to 20 years keep needing repairs. Sound ducts only need cleaning, and we will say so. See duct replacement.

How long does a replacement take?

Usually 1 to 2 days, depending on the size of the system. The inspection comes first, so you know the scope before anything is booked.

How much does it cost? Is the estimate free?

The estimate is free and carries no obligation. We do not publish fixed prices because every vent and duct system is different. The length of the run, the buildup, the size of the system and the access all move the number. Our prices are clear, with no hidden fees.
